Theresia's Story

TheresiaI got bored. There, I said it. It's the truth, and I'm glad I listened to my instincts. I spent eight years in the health insurance industry. I could have hung my hat and called it home for the rest of my life but I was bored. I was comfortably bored but bored none-the-less. So, at the age of 30, I left my cushy career and headed to Charlotte to attend Carolina School of Broadcasting. Feeling the clock ticking, I was determined to get somewhere fast, and I did.

I graduated at the top of my class and weaseled my way into an internship at the NBC affiliate, WCNC-TV. Not long after I began my internship, my former news director asked me to consider becoming his Consumer/Investigative Producer. I pondered his request for all of 10 nano-seconds before saying yes. It was a wonderful experience, and I am proud of my two Best Consumer Report Awards, one from the Associated Press and another from the Radio and Television News Directors Association. Oh, and I was twice Emmy nominated.

Two years later, I skipped about 20 major media markets and went straight to number eight: Washington, DC. I worked as a freelance producer and correspondent for organizations such as CNN, Reuters Television, CBN News, a few local affiliates and some production houses. I covered a lot of history including the end of the Clinton Administration, The Chandra Levy - Congressman Condit scandal, and the Bush/Gore election vote of 2000. I was also witness to the devastation of the attacks on America from across the street from the Pentagon and went on to cover the events of 9/11 from both Washington, DC and New York.

Having had my fill of news - especially bad news – I decided on a new adventure and relocated to Indianapolis in 2002. I focused my efforts on print journalism and, more specifically, the auto racing industry. I had originally intended to become a sports broadcaster but got side-tracked when news called my name. What I learned in news has helped me to become a better writer, and I have since been published in more than two-dozen national and international publications including NASCAR Nextel Cup Scene, National Speed Sport News, Performance Racing Industry, Military Officer, Sports Spectrum, The Christian Post and many others.

I couldn't do what I do without the support of my amazing husband, Kurt, and our extended families, both in South Carolina (my home) and in Indiana. We share our home with our lovable pooch, Fletcher.
